Married To Your Work

How we put a positive spin on “the ol’ ball and chain” for the Western New York (WNY) American Advertising Awards.

Married to your work. At first pass, that may sound like a bad thing. But we don’t think it is.

As the agency responsible for promoting this year’s WNY American Advertising Awards show, we looked for a theme to communicate what the occasion represents—an evening to celebrate the culmination of a year’s worth of smart thinking, pushing boundaries and tireless dedication that resulted in standout creative from the entire WNY advertising community. Sure, there are some long days. And yes, a career in our industry doesn’t always allow us to stop thinking about our work when we leave the office. But there are other, more important and invaluable qualities that shine a positive light on being married to our work.

Here’s how we pulled it off:

  1. We have passion. We put a little bit of ourselves into every piece of work we create. We build some incredible relationships with our coworkers, clients and vendor partners. We’re passionate about building upon the work we’ve done the day before, no matter how great it already is. And we cherish the feeling of successful results for our clients.
  1. We have ups and downs. Like anyone who’s taken those sacred vows will tell you, marriage isn’t always easy. Believe it or not, working in advertising isn’t always fun and games. We freak out when we’re on a tight deadline and the printer is jammed by some invisible scrap of paper (again.) We struggle to come up with the next big idea. We panic when our computer crashes and there’s a chance we may have just lost all the hard work we poured our heart and soul into for the past three hours. And that’s just the start of it. But we embrace those challenges; and at the end of the day, when the reboot and recovery were successful, the repairman found that shred of a paper, and the big idea finally emerges, all is right with the world once again.
  1. We’re committed. Just as two people commit to spending their lives together and dedicate themselves to building an unbreakable union, we are committed to our work and our client partnerships. Whether we knew this was how we were going to spend the rest of our lives from the moment we first dabbled in advertising, or we stumbled upon a career when we were least expecting it, one thing’s for sure: We can’t imagine life any other way.
  1. We know how to celebrate. And what better way to celebrate another great year of the Buffalo advertising community’s love, commitment, and passion than with one giant, kick-ass reception?

The big day falls on Friday, March 4, at 6 PM sharp. With Statler City as our backdrop, we’ll host the WNY American Advertising Awards show on behalf of the Advertising Club of Buffalo. As we gather to celebrate all the great work produced in 2015, and honor the amazing people behind its creation, we’ll raise a glass and toast to being married … to our work.
