FARM attended SXSW in Austin, TX this year. Here’s what we learned about up-and-coming digital marketing trends for 2019.
Four of our Cultivators attended the Interactive Festival at South by Southwest (SXSW) in Austin, Texas, last week to learn the latest trends in digital marketing and innovation. Below are four key trends that we can expect to see brands use to grow their business.
- Creating Sound-On Content: With 85 percent of social media video views happening with the sound off, creating content that inspires users to interact using sound is an even more important way to cut through the clutter. Brands can create content that capitalizes on the rise of sound-based communities on social media platforms like TikTok, as well as Twitter’s live, audio-only Periscope.
- Rebranding for Digital: An estimated 92 billion people are expected to buy something online in 2019, including 80 percent of all Internet users in the United States. In order to stay competitive, brands should consider refreshing their looks to make sure they display just as well online as they do on a billboard. Brands like Mastercard® have rebranded to look simpler and more informal both to economize space digitally and because what looks good in the physical world may not translate well to the screen.
- Artificial Intelligence: 80 percent of marketers say that artificial intelligence (AI) will revolutionize the marketing space by 2020. One of the ways AI will change things is by personalizing content and pricing depending on what information the AI has about the consumer. Dynamic branding will be able to adapt slogans and messaging based on what the user values and more intelligent dynamic pricing could increase companies’ revenues by up to 14 percent!
- Smart Speaker Connectivity: By the end of next year, there will be 20 to 50 billion connected devices and 225 million smart speakers like Google Home TM or Amazon Echo TM in people’s homes. With the increase in smart speaker ownership comes a huge opportunity for brands to explore a growing retail space. As the smart speaker AI becomes more advanced, it will become easier and easier for consumers to make retail purchases and food orders just by asking Alexa to order “the usual.”
